Your defenses can rest here.
Meet Marisa Mundell, LPC, LMHC, RYT-200
If you're scared to speak up, can't stop imagining worst-case scenarios, and shrink yourself to keep others comfortable — you're in the right place.
I want you to know:
You can stop fighting yourself.
Before I was the one holding space, I was the one who needed it.
Now, I know how to be in my own corner, unapologetically. And I teach people how to do just that.
Over a decade of travel, yoga, writing, and bodywork, I’ve learned the different ways people of all different cultures protect, process, and make progress, including myself. On my own journey, I came to be empowered by the things that make me who I am at my core:
A deep thinker with a rich inner world and an insatiable appetite for knowledge
Scorpio, through and through—I’m obsessed with transformation!
Italian by blood, food is my love language, and I talk with my hands
Millennial mom, in awe of the wonders of childhood whimsy
A creative writer who can’t NOT play with words
I still catch myself clinging to an outcome and reverting to old habits at times. The difference isn't that I stopped doing it… It's that I stopped treating it as proof something's wrong with me.
Most of my clients are really, really hard on themselves. Overthinking every decision, controlling for every outcome, numbing with busyness. It's meant to keep you safe, but it just keeps you stuck. No one really sees how hard you are on yourself. From the outside, you look like you're handling things. On the inside, you're bullying yourself while trying to feel better.
My approach
The hardest things to say are usually the most important. I’m all about making the process a little easier…and even, fun!
My practice is informed by spirituality, philosophy, depth psychology, and existentialism. I draw from experiential methods that bypass your busy analytical brain, as well cognitive approaches that help examine and reframe those suspicious automatic thoughts. Through dialogue, story, movement, art, and play, we examine your current landscape of patterns—-and honor what’s sacred about the way they’ve protected you. Then we begin creating new neural pathways, in the here and now, by rehearsing the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that feel most sustainable and value aligned for you. Imagine improvising without compromising safety.
Our therapeutic relationship is the most powerful factor in your healing process. It is your personal arena to practice being yourself, by challenging everything you’re not, including me. Within the boundaries of our trusting relationship, choice, context, and connection are the guides for helping you communicate honestly and begin to heal.
Creative Process Counseling is your space to stop gaslighting your gut and own your shh-tuff (the things you were taught to keep quiet about)! It’s the permission you’ve been waiting for to follow your intuition and trust you’ll be okay, wherever it leads you, without needing to prove it first.
Methods I Use Most:
Expressive Arts
Somatic Experiencing
Yogic Tradition
Psychodrama
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trust Based Relational Intervention
Internal Family Systems
“Marisa is one who never rests on laurels but always seeks out ways to grow as a therapist...
It isn't easy being an advocate. Most of the time, one has to swim upstream, fighting waters that want things pushed back.
But with persistence, patience, and finesse, she finds ways to beat the tide."
